Cucumbers: A Healthy, Crunchy Snack for Dogs

It can be difficult to know which fruits and vegetables are dog-safe snacks (in moderation), but the good news is that raw cucumbers are on the safe and healthy list!

Nutritional Benefits of Cucumbers

Not only are cucumbers easily found at any grocery store and affordable, they’re also 96% water, low in calories, low in sodium, and fat-free, making them a great treat for your pup.

They’re especially great treats in the summer when your dog needs a boost of hydration, or for food-motivated dogs who are trying to lose weight.

Like any new food, we recommend introducing cucumber slowly and not overfeeding it.

Also, it’s important to note that pickles are not a recommended treat for dogs, even though they’re made from cucumbers. Pickles tend to have added salt and spices that could be harmful or upset your dog’s tummy.

Fun Fact: Because cucumbers grow from flowers and have seeds, they’re botanically classified as a fruit, not a vegetable.
